Q: To start with, tell us about yourself.
I am basically from Kolhapur. My father is retired music teacher. I have have 5 sister and one brother. I abandoned my engineering course and took to an air ticketing job in Pune, which I continue for three years. Then I moved to Mumbai to pursue acting carrier. Now I stay in Goregaon, Mumbai.

Q: How and when your acting career took off ?
I always wanted to become an actress since my childhood. But I didn't have the courage to tell anyone about it. After completing my responsibilities, I moved to Mumbai to pursue acting carrier. In Mumbai also, I had done some odd jobs. I want to give it a try. I worked in commercial advertisements like that for Tata DoCoMo, Fevicol, Head & Shoulders, ICICI Bank and more. In 2007, I was offered the role of a gajra-seller in Madhur Bhandarkar's Traffic Signal without having auditioned for it.

Q: Tell us about your struggle in film industry.
Initially I stay at distant suburb of Mira Road. The search for meaningful work led to mental depression. The thought of giving up on Mumbai was even scarier. I worked in some commercial ads. Life is tough for a lower middle-class, dark-complexioned, small-town Marathi girl. I am basically a fighter and wont give up easily. Bollywood, where I really wanted to carve a niche, has been dodging me for long. I have been rejected without auditions. Hindi soap producers have told me on my face that they prefer fair and cat-eyed women. Then one fine day, Madhur Bhandarkar's Traffic Signal happens and at this juncture I leave my job. Though film industry is harsh and demanding, but it values hard work. No wonder people like me continue to work.
