'Uchalya' Runs Into Controvercy

Laxman Gaikwad's novel 'Uchalya' will be made into a film directed by Samit Kakkad. However recently, director Ananth Mahadevan also announced a film based on the same novel which is about the community of thieves known as 'Uchalya'.

Ananth Mahadevan claims that Samit's rights to the film have expired and Laxman Gaikwad sold the rights to him.

Anant Mahadevan said, "I will begin shooting the film by the end of this month. I decided to take up this project, because it was challenging. Upendra Limaye will be playing the lead in my film."

Samit's film will star Jitendra Joshi in the lead and the actor will be losing 25 kgs to portray the character.

while Laxman Gaikwad said, "The contract between Samit and me was for one year. I don't know why he is saying that he has the perpetual rights of the book. I wanted the film made soon as I wanted people to know about our community. But he didn't do anything and so I went ahead and sold the rights to Ananth."
