Vinay Apte Passes Away

Vinay Apte, a well known marathi actor and known for his role in Satyagraha (2013), Aarakshan (2011) and Chandni Bar (2001), breathed his last on December 7, 2013. He was 62.

Vinay Apte who was suffering from low blood pressure, passed away after his heart started to pulse down.

“Mr Vinay Apte was admitted to the hospital yesterday at 8.24 pm. He died today at 5.45 pm. The cause of his death is multiple organ failure and secondary to acute coronary syndrome,” Dr Ram Narain, COO of Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, told PTI.

Vinay Apte worked both in films and on television. He has acted in television serials like "Madhubala-Ek Ishq Ek Junoon" and "Adalat" and in the Marathi soap "Durva".


He is survived by his wife and two sons. His older son Anshuman, a radio jockey in the United States, was with Apte in hospital on Friday and left for the US on Friday night. However, he will be back to Mumbai on Monday, family sources said.

Apte began his acting career in 1974 in Marathi theatre and gradually began directing Marathi plays. His first play Mitrachi Goshta (Friend's Story) was written by well known Marathi playwright Vijay Tendulkar.

He acted in several Marathi movies and television shows in his almost 40-year-old career.
