Fandry Wins Five Awards at PIFF 2014

Marathi film 'Fandry', the debut feature film of director Nagraj Manjule won five awards at the recently concluded Pune International Film Festival 2014 (PIFF-2014).

After receiving the Best Film jury award at the Mumbai Film Festival last year, the film bagged the Government of Maharashtra "Sant Tukaram" Best International Marathi Film award, Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal Best Marathi Film Director award for Nagraj Manjule, Best Marathi Film Actor award for Somnath Awghade, Best Cinematographer award for Vikram Amladi and the audience award for best Marathi competition film.

Produced jointly by Navalakha Arts and Holy Basil Productions and presented by Essel Vision Productions, Fandry is scheduled to release on February 14, 2014. The film stars Somnath Awghade, Rajeshwari Kharat, Suraj Pawar, Chhaya Kadam, Pravin Tarde, Jyoti Subhash, and Kishor Kadam.

This year, PIFF had seven films in the Marathi Film Section. These included 72 Miles Ek Pravas, Fandry, Astu, Tapaal, Rege, Narbachi Wadi, and Maunraag. The Special Jury Award for Best Audiography (Music and Background Score) was won by Mangesh Dhakde for Narbachi Wadi.
