Review
Is it the duty of a wife to support her husband through thick and thin, even if it involves losing her eyesight due to his mistake? The film takes a look at this and other problems through Meera's ( Veena Jamkar) perception.

Meera is brought up in her paternal aunt's household post the demise of her mother. There she finds a cure for her loneliness in her cousin Madhav's ( Kashyap Parulekar) company. Madhav leaves for Pune for higher studies but on returning he keeps his promise of marrying Meera. After a miscarriage, Meera starts encountering problems with her vision. Madhav tries various medicines prepared by him for curing what he thinks is an eye infection. Turns out, its much worse that just an infection. Meera loses her eyesight and the couple's happy life gets complicated. This continues for a while till Sunanda ( Shruti Marathe) enters the picture and Madhav's aunt Durgabai (Neena Kulkarni) urges him to have a second marriage with Sunanda. Does Madhav marry Sunanda and break the promise he made to Meera?

Tagore's original story has been retained with a few modifications in the presentation and that helps the film score majority points. The direction and art direction are other strong areas of 'Taptapadi' but it is Veena's acting that steals the show. She portrays the loneliness, frustration, love and angst of her character with aplomb. Kashyap and Shruti are convincing in their respective roles. Another actor who deserves a mention is Neena Kulkarni who plays the scheming aunt flawlessly.

The film is definitely a one-time watch and Tagore lovers will not be disappointed after watching it.
