62nd National Film Award Winning Marathi Movies

The 62nd National Film Awards were announced in a press conference in New Delhi today. The conference was addressed by Jury Chairpersons Shri Bharathiraja and Shri Kamal Swaroop.

A Marathi film 'Court' that chronicles the flaws in India’s notoriously slow judicial system and its effect on ordinary citizens won the top prize at the 62nd National Film Awards.

“It couldn’t have come at a better time, because we are releasing the film next month and this will help us tremendously. I am also really happy about the government’s stamp of approval. Now I know my film won’t be banned,” the film’s director, Chaitanya Tamhane said.

Other prominent Marathi winners included Ravi Jadhav's 'Mitraa', which was selected as the Best Short Fiction Film, and Avinash Arun’s 'Killa', which bagged Best Marathi Film award.
