Mahesh Kale has bagged the best playback singer (male) for the Marathi film, Katyar Kaljat Ghusli, at the 63rd National Film Awards.

Mahesh Kale has bagged the best playback singer (male) for the Marathi film, Katyar Kaljat Ghusli, at the 63rd National Film Awards.

“I am missing my mother Meenal Kale — my first music teacher — the most, and Guru Pandit Jitendra Abhishekiji who would have been so proud of me today,” said 40-year-old Kale.

Mahesh Kale, an accomplished vocalist of new generation, has played the character of ‘Sadashiv’ in the play that was revived by vocalist Rahul Deshpande, whose grandfather late Vasantrao Deshpande had immortalised the role of Khansaheb.

For the celluloid version of Katyar, Kale has given playback for Subodh Bhave, who is essaying the role of ‘Sadashiv’ in this movie.

Mahesh Kale, who studied at Abhinav Vidyalay, Fergusson College, and took up engineering at Vishwakarma Institute of Technology moved to the United States for higher studies. However, such was his passion for music that he gave lecture-demonstrations at Stanford and Harvard, performed with well known saxophonist in Jazz, George Brooks, and teaches music to students at San Francisco Bay area. Kale is married to Purva Gujar.
